The Astoria Agora: Dialectic of STEAM Education

A Preschool First Iteration of the Modern Lyceum

Dimitris Timpilis April 21, 2024

Join us to be part of shaping a modern STEAM preschool inspired by Aristotle’s Lyceum!

Hey, Astoria Parents!

Imagine a preschool where our little ones don’t just learn to read, write, and count but learn how to explore the world around them through art, science, technology, engineering, and math. We’re excited to introduce a new kind of summer program, ideal for when school is out: July and August.

What’s Special About Our School? Our dream is to create a school that revives the ancient Greek spirit of learning and curiosity, as exemplified by Aristotle in his Lyceum. It’s a place that nurtures academic skills along with the art of being a good, informed, and active member of the community.

Why Aristotle’s Lyceum? Aristotle believed in teaching everything from nature studies and math to dialectics, and from applied science to arts and ethics, making learning an exciting, holistic journey. This approach helps children understand and solve complex problems by seeing the connections between different subjects, which is the essence of our holistic STEAM philosophy.

Learning Beyond Books:

  • Play and Learn: This is a school where the activities are simultaneously play, work, and learning, in a safe environment.

  • Nature and Science: Your child will engage in outdoor hands-on activities that make learning about the natural world fun and exciting.

  • Art and Expression: The arts will be part of everyday learning, helping kids express themselves creatively while understanding the world around them.

  • Thinking and Problem-Solving: Our approach helps nurture critical thinking and reasoning, which are essential skills for every young mind.

  • Community and Growth: This isn’t just a school; it’s a community. We believe in learning together, where every opinion matters, helping shape our school and its values.

Be Part of the Adventure: We need your voice and vision! Join us by subscribing and commenting through the Astoria Agora blog to help us build a place where your child can grow to navigate our complex world, champion critical thinking, embrace creativity, and build a moral character.
